To mark the 1 year anniversary of Covid-19 and the subsequent closing/changing of Izizwe Dance Studio, we had our first virtual performance! This performance featured Izizwe owners/teachers, Jean Appolon Expressions new work "Traka," Our 2020 Virtual Summer Program attendees, and our teens from our advanced modern class. The Lawrence Summer Dance Institute, in partnership with Jean Appolon Expressions, took place virtually this year with students tuning in from Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley, Maine, New Hampshire, Columbia, and Haiti! We are proud to continue this program and partnership and even more proud of our dancers who turned their homes into dance studios! During the first two weeks students ranging in age from 5-18, studied various types of dance, choreographic structures, dance history, and story telling. The last 4 weeks consisted of a pre-professional program with a small group of teens looking to take their dance training to the next level. As part of Izizwe Connected, African Dance Workout is currently on Facebook live every Saturday from 10:00am-11:00am. Follow on Facebook and simply tune in from your living room, backyard, kitchen, bedroom or anywhere! Lets just come together and dance.
Come sweat it out at Izizwe Dance Studio's weekly African Dance. This 1 hour workshop is a blend of dance, rhythm, cardio, and culture! This class is community based and requires no registration. Just drop-in and start your weekend out with a fun workout that combines traditional African dance with strength building and stretching. Challenge yourself, move at your own pace, or simply be a part of the culture. All ages and abilities welcome. This class includes live drumming. $8 fee per class.
